How is Child Support Determined?

Child support is determined by a variety of factors, the two most important of which are the gross monthly incomes of yourself and the opposing party.  Using these two gross monthly income amounts, a statutory formula worksheet is used to calculate the presumptive amount of child support that must be paid monthly by one of the parties in a case.  This number is considered presumptive, in that the amount may be lowered or higher by what are called deviations.

O.C.G.A. 19-6-15 provides specific details on available deviations, as well as the legal description and definition of the terms used throughout the code.  You may also visit http://cscalc.gaaoc.us/ to use the free online child support calculator.  At the Sellers Law Firm we understand that navigating the ins and outs of Georgia’s child support laws can be tiresome and frustrating.  If you have any questions or need help on a current case, give us a call for a consultation at the Sellers Law Firm: where clients become family.
