Motor Vehicle Report

When dealing with traffic citations, one of the most important documents your attorney may request is a copy of your driving history.  This history may be obtained by getting a copy of your motor vehicle report, commonly called a MVR.

This document identifies your driving history, detailing every driving offense you have ever been accused of committing, from speeding tickets to D.U.I. offenses.  The Department of Driver Services (DDS) maintains everyone’s MVR, and the same may be requested online, in-person, or via the U.S. Mail.

Three (3) different variations of a MVR may be obtained: a three (3) year report, a seven (7) year report, and a lifetime report.  When dealing with a traffic citation, a lifetime report is always preferred, as the prosecution will have your lifetime report.  You never want your attorney to be blindsided by information from the prosecutor.

You may download the MVR request form from the Georgia DDS website HERE.

Traffic offenses are often overlooked as minor inconveniences that will go away by simply paying a fine. The truth is that traffic citations can lead to license suspensions, license points accumulation, probation, and hefty fines.
